Posters from The Great War from around the world
For those nations involved in the Great War, and there were a lot of them, all needed the same thing . . . men, money, and materiel. Whether Allied or Central Power, all countries required these three things. Yet this was an age before radio or television. Motion Pictures were new, rare, and silent. Along with other print media, one of the tools most turned to in conveying their message was the poster. Through the image and words splashed on paper, nations would fight the war with information, inspiration, and agitation. Anonymous, little known, and artists famous in their time helped produce images that would awaken feelings of patriotism, outrage, and fear which would help drive the machinery of war.
